am I shadowbanned on X?
A shadowban means X quietly limits your reach — your posts look live to you, but barely reach anyone else. There's no official tool that confirms it, so here's how to check yourself in two minutes.
the signs
- Your impressions crater suddenly across every post, not just one.
- Your replies stop appearing under big accounts (search-deboosted).
- Engagement drops to only people who already follow you — zero discovery.
- You don't show up in search for your own handle or recent tweets.
the 2-minute self-check
- Logged-out profile check: open your profile in a private/incognito window. If recent posts are missing, your account may be deboosted.
- Search check: search
from:yourhandlein a logged-out window. Missing tweets = a search suggestion ban. - Reply check: reply to a big account, then view that thread logged-out. If your reply is hidden under "show more replies," you're reply-deboosted.
how to recover
Most "shadowbans" are soft, temporary reach throttles, not permanent bans. Stop the behavior that triggered it — aggressive following/unfollowing, spammy links, repetitive replies, or automation — and give it 1–3 days of normal, human activity. Avoid third-party "shadowban checker" sites that ask you to log in; they can't see anything you can't, and some are phishing.
catch reach collapses early
Argus reads your real X analytics daily, so a sudden reach drop shows up as a number, not a vibe — and it's built to keep you 100% manual, never automated, so you don't trigger throttling in the first place.
