Arguscheck your X, free

privacy

your data is yours. here's exactly where it goes.

Argus has two modes. The extension on its own is local - the overlay, ranking, and drafting run entirely in your browser and send nothing anywhere. The hosted dashboard is opt-in: only when you paste an access token does your captured analytics sync to the Argus server so you can read it across devices. We never sell your data, run ads, or track you. Below is the full picture.

what Argus reads

Argus reads the X analytics and timeline data that X already sends to your own browser while you use x.com - your reach, follows, saves, replies, and the posts in your feed. It stores that in the browser's IndexedDB and extension storage, and (if you enable it) a JSON file in your own Downloads folder. It is used only to rank who to reply to, draft in your voice, and show you the metrics that actually grow you.

the hosted dashboard (only with an access token)

The hosted dashboard at argushq.cc is optional. When you paste an access token in the extension, Argus syncs your captured analytics to the Argus capture server so the dashboard - and the growth tools - can read them on any device. What's stored there is the same X-analytics data described above (aggregated daily metrics and the raw capture records that produce them), plus the date you first connected. Each token's data is fully isolated from every other account. No access token, nothing syncs - the server rejects the request and everything stays in your browser. We don't store your X password, DMs, or anything X doesn't already show you.

sharing your growth is opt-in

You can generate a public link to your growth chart (the "share" button on the dashboard). This is entirely opt-in - no link exists until you create one. A share link exposes only aggregated numbers - followers, reach, and replies over time, plus your start date - and never your individual posts, reply targets, DMs, or account details. The link uses an unguessable id and can be revoked on request.

AI drafting is optional

Ranking, inline tags, capture, and "copy prompt for Claude" need no AI at all, and make no AI request of any kind. One-click AI drafting is opt-in, and how it works depends on which build you run.

Chrome Web Store build (Argus Pro). Pro is bought on argushq.cc and unlocked by pasting a license key into the extension popup. That license key is authentication information: it is stored locally in your browser, and sent to argushq.cc only to check that it is valid and to authorize your own draft requests. It is not shared with anyone else and is not used to identify or profile you. When you generate a draft, Argus sends that draft's context - the post you are replying to and snippets of your own recent posts used as voice examples - to argushq.cc, which relays it to our AI provider under our key and returns the text. Nothing else is sent, and the context is used to produce your draft and for nothing else. Without a valid license key, no draft request is ever made.

Self-hosted build. If you run Argus from source, you paste your own AI provider key (e.g. Groq) instead. The same draft context then goes directly to that provider under your key, subject to that provider's privacy policy. Remove the key and nothing goes to any AI provider.

permissions, and why

  • storage - save your settings and captured analytics in your browser on this machine.
  • downloads - write the analytics export file you ask Argus to save.
  • alarms - schedule in-browser housekeeping. The Chrome Web Store build makes no background network requests at all.
  • host access (x.com) - read the analytics X sends your browser and place drafts into the reply box. Argus never auto-posts, auto-replies, auto-follows, or auto-likes. Everything is draft-and-insert; you press the buttons.
  • host access (argushq.cc) - sync your captured analytics to the hosted dashboard, but only when you've connected an access token.
  • host access (argushq.cc), Pro AI - when you activate Argus Pro, in-browser AI drafting sends the post you are replying to and your voice style to argushq.cc to generate the draft, and nothing else. On the free tier no draft request is ever made; you use the "Draft in Claude / ChatGPT" handoff, which opens that tool in your browser.

what Argus does not do

No tracking, no analytics-on-you, no ads, no third-party data sharing, no selling your data, ever. Argus is manual-only - it never auto-posts, auto-replies, auto-follows, or auto-likes. The free Chrome Web Store build ships without the cookies permission and makes no hosted-sync requests.
